A new era of green flying

We are building a regional air mobility platform
that aims to sustainably connect the world's communities

ELECTRIFICATION

Reinventing flying
through the power of electrification

A new category of regional air mobility, we believe, can create a travel option that flexibly addresses cost, time, and environmental impact
GREEN FLYING

Green flying redefines our radius of local possibility

When smaller aircraft are cheaper to operate, we believe we can unlock the benefits of regional air travel in more places

How it works

ELECTRIFYING SMALLER AIRCRAFT

By electrifying smaller existing aircraft first, we can take a significant step toward decarbonizing air travel. Regional flights between 50 to 500 miles account for ~14% of carbon dioxide emissions from aviation. There are 15,000+ existing 9-19 seat turboprop aircraft flying these routes, ready to be electrified.

A delightful flying experience

We’ve solved the greatest pain points of commercial flying: seamless booking, easy check-in, no crowds or lines, private lounges, and an enjoyable flying experience.

Point-to-point air travel

There are 5,000 public-use airports in the U.S., yet only ~500 have regular commercial service. A new kind of point-to-point air travel can replace busy highways and large crowded airports, and change the paradigm of how we move.

Electric aviation is closer than you think

Green Flying

WHY NOW

Carbon emissions from aircraft continue to increase, along with demand for flights. Surf Air Mobility has brought together the necessary solutions that exist today to pull forward the future of electric air travel. Everything from our existing consumer platform to our electrification technology is accelerating the path to zero emission flying.

THE PROBLEM

There’s a 915,000,000 metric ton carbon dioxide problem waiting to be solved, and global aviation emissions are increasing every year. Addressing climate change is a categorical imperative for the air travel industry.

THE IMPACT

Our first-generation hybrid electric powertrains are targeting emission reductions of up to 50% and direct operating cost reduction of up to 25%, without sacrificing aircraft performance โ€” all for the same cost of regular engine overhauls that occur normally every ~3 years. Fully electric versions will see up to 100% emission reduction and up to 50% operating cost reduction.

THE ELECTRIFICATION TECHNOLOGY

We are developing electrified powertrains to decarbonize the turboprop category. There are over 15,000 existing turboprop aircraft worldwide today with the potential to upgrade to our proprietary electrification technology.โ€จOur electrified powertrains will be first integrated on one of the world’s most popular turboprop aircraft, the Cessna Grand Caravan. We believe our electrified version โ€” the EP1 โ€” will substantially reduce the cost of operation of the Cessna Grand Caravan and can turn this vehicle into a mass transportation solution.

THE NEW NETWORK

Making air travel sustainable will fundamentally change how we move around the world. As we work toward reducing the environmental cost of flying to zero, we can redraw the map of where we live, work, and explore, opening up exciting new economic and lifestyle opportunities.ย โ€จ90% of the U.S. population lives less than 30 minutes from an underutilized regional airport. This network for regional aviation focuses on 50 to 500 mile distances that are critically underserved by legacy airlines and are a bad fit for alternative emerging modes of transportation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

When taking a flight produces fewer carbon emissions, approaches the same cost as driving, and saves customers time, the choice to switch to air travel becomes obvious. Affordable, emission-free flight will create a virtuous cycle that makes sustainable air travel accessible to more people in more places. Hybrid and fully electric powertrains not only reduce carbon emissions but also operating and maintenance costs, making upgrading to electric engines an economic choice as well as an eco-friendly one. For consumers, the same calculus applies.
